Common Complaints and Reliability

  • 1. Braking & Acceleration Issues::

    • Brakes failed and vehicle went into a tree.
    • Vehicle suddenly took off backwards into a tree, brakes did not work.
    • While driving 15 MPH, vehicle started to buck, then accelerated.
    • Consumer applied brakes but could not stop vehicle, rear-ended vehicle in front.

  • 2. Ignition Issues::

    • Ignition would not turn off.
    • Vehicle's ignition would not turn off.

  • 3. Seatbelt Issues (General & Recall Related)::

    • Driver's seat belt latch will not remain engaged into receiver; driver unrestrained.
    • Driver's belt retracting mechanism sprung, resulting in strap not retracting completely when belt is released.
    • Driver's seat belt buckle cracked, causing difficulty inserting buckle without jamming and won't always go all the way in.
    • Rear seat belt could not accommodate a normal size person with a 34-inch waist.
    • Lap/shoulder belt on driver plastic latch is broken.
    • Owner received recall letter for front seat belt buckles (95V103003); contacted dealer but parts are not available.
    • Upon replacing seat belt buckle for recall in January 1996, the buckle has broken again March 1996.
    • After being repaired under the recall, the driver's side seat belt is very hard to buckle.
    • Dealer said they would replace the seat belt, but still no parts for recall 95V103003.
    • Received recall notice #95V103003, took vehicle to dealer, but no parts were available.
    • Front seat belt release button cracked and jammed, repaired/replaced under recall.
    • Seat belt recall - want refund for repairs.
    • Takata seatbelt failed, causing injury in accident.
    • Owner received recall notice, contacted dealer and was told parts were not available.
    • Front seat belt buckle recall repair refused due to unavailability of parts.
    • Seat belt retractors failed.
    • Rear seat belt mounts rusted through.
    • Dealership is unaware of the specifics of the recall on the seat belt.
    • Rear passenger side shoulder belt is anchored to a plate which is part of the rear wheel well; normal wheel well corrosion causes this plate to break free, rendering rear belts useless.

  • 4. Tire Issues::

    • Back passenger's tire tread had peeled off, causing a plate to be ripped off the automobile.
    • Michelin XCH4S on vehicle have blown out, even the one mounted on back has blown.
    • Spare tire tread is peeling away from tire (Firestone Steel Radial 500, LR78-15, DOTVDV4FNJ283).

  • 5. Engine/Overheating Issues::

    • Cracked engine head, causing vehicle to overheat while driving on interstate highway.

  • 6. Windshield Wiper Issues::

    • Structure housing on the windshield wiper is defective, and wipers don't work.
    • Windshield wiper mechanism jams where motor loaded, bolts get loose where wiper moves up/down, hole in sheet metal that holds wiper gets larger, causing wiper to jam under windshield, cracked windshield, impairs driver's vision, mostly in winter months.
