Common Complaints and Reliability

• 1. Brake Issues:

  • ABS brake failure, yellow light came on and pedal went to the floor
    
  • ABS holds and releases, vehicle continues to move
    
  • Brakes locking up, wheel cylinders and brake shoes replaced
    
  • Emergency brake failure, retainer clip allowed cable to come out of arm
    
  • Rear anti-lock brakes failed
    
  • Rear inner axle seals continue to blowout, causing a loss of brakes
    
  • When applying ABS brakes in the morning, rear brakes lock up
    
  • When driving at about 35mph, tried to panic stop, had no rear brakes for about 1-2 seconds
    
  • When the brakes are applied, the vehicle would go 20 to 30 feet before kicking in
    
  • While driving, applied the brakes and the vehicle would not stop
    

• 2. Electrical Issues:

  • Electrical feed wire to fuel heater routed too close to throttle bracket, causing a short circuit
    
  • Unknown intermittent electrical failure causing various functions (cruise control, speedometer, air conditioning, etc.) to fail
    
  • When starting the engine, battery exploded due to electrical short
    

• 3. Transmission Issues:

  • Diesel engine produces too much torque causing automatic transmission to fail
    
  • Transmission stopped working while driving on highway at normal speed
    
  • Transfer case lever started vibrating, heard a snap, awful grinding noise, and shaking of the vehicle
    

• 4. Steering Issues:

  • Steering box gears and seals are out, causing wheels to jump back and forth
    
  • Steering box gears failed due to leaking seals
    
  • Steering gear (frame to gear reinforcement bracket) broke due to rust
    
  • Steering column coupling breaks and causes the driver to lose steering control
    

• 5. Other Issues:

  • Accelerator linkage fell off
    
  • Cruise control failed on two occasions
    
  • Gear shift lever broke off
    
  • Lower right front ball joint failed
    
  • Lower steering coupler failed
    
  • Power steering unit failed
    
  • Spot welds holding bed to frame of the truck are tearing the bed
